Optronics® introduces automated 3-Pass color imaging technology with resolution up to 12 million pixels for their line of quantitative cameras including: QuantiFire®, MacroFire® monochrome and MicroFire® monochrome.

SANTA BARBARA, CA – September 14, 2004 – Optronics®, the leader in developing easy-to-use, high performance digital cameras and software for research microscopy, announces the introduction of 3-pass color imaging technology for use with their entire line of monochrome cameras.


A new graphical user interface (GUI) in the Optronics PictureFrame® software application controls the CRI® Macro-Color™ tunable liquid crystal RGB filter. Three independent exposures can be taken and combined automatically, generating a high resolution RGB color image. The implementation of this filter provides full CCD pixel utilization and full co-site sampled RGB resolution.

The integration of the CRI filter control within PictureFrame, enables automated RGB color acquisition without the need to manually move a filter slider. Optronics has designed the filter assembly to be located from the focal plane to eliminate image artifacts and image imperfections. A simple mounting mechanism allows the electronic filter to be easily removed, so that the cameras can be used in the native 12-bit quantitative monochrome mode.

Automated-tunable liquid crystal filter technology is another in a series of advanced imaging features available within the innovative and powerful PictureFrame imaging application.
